...me and my best friend kleeeeeenex.
Hallelujah!
I WAS SUPPOSED TO LEAVE THE 12 OF FEB. BUT THE ENTIRE SITUATION WITH WEC TURNED OUT TO BE DIFFERENT THAN I THOUGHT. So lift me up that I would learn all the Portuguese I need to get by anyways. My room mate here at headquarters is actually Brazilian and she is adorable! We really have hit it off! She is teaching me some Portuguese and I am making her laugh a lot in English. She and the girls in my dorm here are precious! They all took care of me when I was sick; I felt so warmly welcomed for the long week ahead even considering the being sick and all.
Tell me how I can keep you all in prayer too! I will write more later!
God bless!
Miss you!

see you!

I got a blog here! Praise God! Now everyone can see whasssup with my adventures in Belo Horizonte over the next months. I have been meaning to get this blog up and going for a few days here, but didn't have a minute to do so until....well, right now.
My prayers are that this blog can keep everyone posted on the journies, journals, pics (if I can scan some), and devotionals all along the way. I cherish your time in reading with me and being a part of my heart while I get ready to learn the language and culture of these precious people in the favelas (slums) of the city.
I love you! Please write and respond in prayers and comments; I know blogs are good for all that so that's the reason for me really creating this for ya! Lets do it together!
So....now that I have made it to the Headquarters here at WEC International in PA, I have undergone IMMENSE course work over the past week for VERY thorough orientation! So much I have learned it's unbelievable! Praise God! I do praise Him for this time even though a lot of it I have had tons of experience with already.
I am posting a few pics of my crazy situation of being SUPER sick upon arrival (satan really wanted to prevent me from going on this trip... even to Pennsylvania for the training sessions), as well as a couple pics of a day around the mulberry bush of some "culture shock" experiences : eating together from one bowl of Gambian food...with only my hands!
I was supposed to be the American attempting to "blend in" to the host national of Gambia by imitating his eating habits, respecting his culture this way. There were three of us in the excercise; one portraying the national who was "hosting" us for supper, one: an ignorant American tourist, and me. None of us knew who was who while getting into it, we were simply told to follow instructions...and eat with our hands. This turned out to be hilarious!

It has been neat working with a group of missionaries going sent through this particular missions organization; each team on their way somewhere else. We have all married couples except for me! One couple going to South Asia has the sweetest little 5 month old! I am so proud of this little family! We will have much to catch up on when we each return home.

Hello My Sister from the same Mister! Howz it going, really!? Where are you now? Been praying for ya lots. Hope all is well. Turkey is quite interesting from a spiritual perspective-tonight I'm hoping to make it to a Protestant worship time with many churches here in Istanbul for prayer over this city and our lives. I'm really excited. And I'm really excited for you as well. Glad we can be doing these things at the same time even tho we arent together physically. When will you post updates on her btw?? Love you much, Leons
Welcome to the blogosphere! God be with you in Brazil.
you are so beautiful in everything you do. always praying for you in Jesus name! miss laughing with you GOD bless. tim <><
Jeans,
It's fun to see what you're doing down there. Praying for you and the kids. I met my bio-grandpa today for the first time. Thanks to my bio-mom's relationship with Jesus, she forgave him for past things and we got to meet each other today in New York, halleluja! Also your prayers were answered, because I got a phone call from Jenn yesterday, she invited me to her birthday party, praise God! I love you soo much and hope you are enjoying the victory in Jesus everyday. I pray the kids and all those that encounter you are flooded with the presence of the Holy Spirit when you hold them in your arms!! I pray they experience the joy of the Lord! You are a Gem!
Love you,
Keri
PS speaking of the joy of the Lord, God glued me to the floor with a holy laughter the other night, it was ridiculous and wonderful, Caleb had to carry me out of the church. That never happened before! God id Good!!!
A couple of days ago I was running (I use that term very loosely) on my treadmill, watching a DVD sermon by Louie Giglio...and I was BLOWN AWAY! I want to share what I learned....but I fear not being able to convey it as well as I want. I will share anyway.
He (Louie) was talking about how inconceivably BIG our God is...how He spoke the universe into being...how He breathes stars out of His mouth that are huge raging balls of fire...etc. etc. Then He went on to speak of how this star-breathing, universe creating God ALSO knitted our human bodies together with amazing detail and wonder. At this point I am LOVING it (fascinating from a medical standpoint, you know.) .....and I was remembering how I was constantly amazed during medical school as I learned more and more about God's handiwork. I remember so many times thinking....'How can ANYONE deny that a Creator did all of this???'
Louie went on to talk about how we can trust that the God who created all this, also has the power to hold it all together when things seem to be falling apart...how our loving Creator is also our sustainer.
And then I lost my breath.
And it wasn't because I was running my treadmill, either!!!
It was because he started talking about laminin.
I knew about laminin. Here is how wikipedia describes them :'Laminins are a family of proteins that are an integral part of the structural scaffolding of basement membranes in almost every animal tissue.' You see....laminins are what hold us together....LITERALLY. They are cell adhesion molecules. They are what holds one cell of our bodies to the next cell. Without them, we would literally fall apart. And I knew all this already. But what I didn't know is what laminin LOOKED LIKE.
But now I do.
And I have thought about it a thousand times since (already)....
Here is what the structure of laminin looks like...AND THIS IS NOT a 'Christian portrayal' of it....if you look up laminin in any scientific/medical piece of literature, this is what you will see...
Now tell me that our God is not the coolest!!!
Amazing.
The glue that holds us together....ALL of us....is in the shape of the cross.
Immediately Colossians 1:15-17 comes to mind.
'He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation.
For by him all things were created; things in heaven and on earth , visible and invisible,
whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities;
all things were created by him and for him.
He is before all things,
and in him all things HOLD TOGETHER. '
Colossians 1:15-17
Call me crazy. I just think that is very, very, very cool.
Thousands of years before the world knew anything about laminin, Paul penned those words. And now we see that from a very LITERAL standpoint, we are held together...one cell to another....by the cross.
You would never in a quadrillion years convince me that is anything other than the mark of a Creator who knew EXACTLY what laminin 'glue' would look like long before Adam even breathed his first breath!!
We praise YOU, Lord!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If you believe, you will receive
whatever you ask for in prayer
Matthew 21:22
